The Legend of Uho te Uka
The Legend of Uho te Uka
Julkaistu 2.11.2015
Filmed 2012 in Easter Island
The legend of Uho te Uka is the story of Uho, an innocent and naive maiden who becomes attracted to a spirit that leads her to a path towards her own destiny. This path will lead her away from home and put her in front of the decisions that will change her life and define her fate.
The movie of Uho te Uka was born out from a dire need to rescue and preserve the legends and stories of the island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), for the future generations to come. For me, as a filmmaker, the biggest reason to make these movies is to preserve our precious culture and the heritage that our ancestors have left us with.
What makes this movie different?
1. It is the first medium-length fiction made entirely by the Rapa Nui people themselves.
2. Spoken entirely in our native Rapa Nui language.
3. All the actors are Rapa Nui.
4. The music in the film is from the original legend itself.
5. Majority of the locations used are from the actual legend.
6. The people who participated are important figures in our culture such as historians, artists, teachers and more.
7. Our project is important because this way we can preserve our tradition visually as well. It also allows us to reach more people, showing the world how important it is to take care of our little culture that would otherwise eventually disappear and die. We will work so that would never happen.
